What is Google Nest’s Two-Factor Authentication Feature?

Many data breaches and account hacking issues have been reported in the past few decades. Several camera manufacturing and home security device producing companies have also reported these issues recently. As cyber security becomes more sophisticated, the old security perimeter couldn't compete with it. On the other hand, it also hampers the security of your premises and loved ones.

To get rid of this, Google Nest has recently announced that all Nest users will be required to enable the two-factor authentication feature for their Nest device. It will add an extra layer of security to their devices. From this spring, Nest users will have to verify their identity through email every time they try to log in to their Nest account. Nest will send you a six-digit OTP through email for a successful login.

Two-factor authentication helps in preventing an unauthorized breach to your Nest account. You will feel more secure and safe after enabling this feature on your Nest device. Just like before, you will need to enter the email address and password to sign in to your account. After that, a unique code will be sent on your phone to confirm an authorized sign-in. You will also need to enter the unique code whenever you change the password, reset the password, and add or remove the phone number.

 How to add Two-step Verification?

Adding two-step verification to your account is quite simple. By following the given technical steps, you can add this feature to the Nest account. Before initiating the process, make sure that you are using an updated version of the Google Nest app.

  • Open the Google Nest app and click on the setting tap from the home screen.
  • Select the account option and then tap on the manage account tab.
  • Click on the account security tab and then choose the option of the two-step verification.
  • Turn on this feature, follow the instructions and enter the password, phone number, and the unique verification code sent to your phone number.

After turning on this feature, you automatically signed out from the google Nest account Login from the app or from any other device you have already logged in. From now onwards, you will need to enter the verification code every time you try to log in to the Google Nest account from any device.

The user can also change the registered phone number. The process is quite easy, and one can do it in no time. Here is all you need to follow:

  • Open the Google Nest app and go to the manage account option.
  • Select the option of account security.
  • Select the old phone number and then click on the remove tab.
  • Enter the password, and a unique code sent on your old phone number.
  • By entering the unique code, you can easily turn off the two-step verification on this number.

By repeating the initial steps, you can add a new phone number to your account and turn on the two-step verification again.
